BE AN ANGEL

Mission: To improve the quality of life for children with special needs by providing adaptive equipment, hearing devices, select services, and support programs. We believe that children are the heart and soul of humanity, that they represent all that is good within us, and that we can help children with special needs experience life at their fullest potential.

HISTORY
In 1986, a concerned parent discovered the overwhelming requirements of special needs children at T.H. Rogers School in Houston, TX and began Be An Angel to help. Now over 30 years later, BAA serves thousand of special needs children throughout Texas. In January, 2022 BAA proudly expanded their wings to launch a Dallas/Fort Worth chapter.

PROGRAMS
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT ~ Helping families address the challenges of caring for a special needs child, BAA provides a wide range of personal equipment to children. BAA also pays for van conversions and lift systems in vehicles.

CAMPS ~ Camp Be An Angel offers special needs children a true camp experience alongside their families, and provides activities these children would never otherwise be able to experience on their own. Their camp is designed to be a retreat for special needs children under the age of 22 and their immediate family (mom, dad, brothers, sisters). The camps are barrier-free, so it gives these children a chance to play alongside their siblings. Only other household residents that cannot be safely left at home will be allowed to accompany the family.

HEARING AIDS ~ For children diagnosed with hearing loss, life can be challenging. When children are at school, the school provides hearing aids for learning; however, when those children go home, those hearing aids do NOT go home with them. If a child doesn’t own a pair of hearing aids personally, if they are broken, or if insurance or Medicaid denies, BAA will ensure these children can hear everywhere. Medicaid and Insurance will only pay for a set of hearing aids once every five years.

RESPITE CARE ~ Continuous vigilance required to care for these children can make it challenging to engage in other necessary activities, including just time to rest. BAA pays for up to 12 hours of care in the home per month so that caregivers can get some time away from 24-hour care of the child.

Other Services include: Christmas program, school equipment, SUCCESS golf, barrier-free playgrounds & equipment, and more. Applications for all services above can be found at www.beanangel.org . INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE
Be An Angel’s international outreach program supports medically fragile, special needs children in the Dominican Republic. Only designated funds are used to help with our international program. Casa de Luz means House of Light and is the bright star in the lives of 40 severely disabled children in the Dominican Republic. Born into poverty, these children were neglected with no one to care for them. At Casa de Luz they receive medical care, nourishment, physical therapy & a loving family.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
There are numerous ways to get involved with BAA including: becoming a board member, serving on events committees, becoming an ambassador, volunteering, hosting events, and more. BAA will make a place for you to become part of the ‘village’ that fills in the gaps for these families at whatever level you can commit. For more information on volunteering, please contact Denise Coffman at denise@beanangel.org .

To apply for financial assistance or assistance with acquiring personal equipment, download the Application and fax or send along with supporting documentation. Applications to Be An Angel are evaluated on the basis of the needs of the child and the financial status of the supporting family.
